"Marvelous Marv" Throneberry is acquired from the Baltimore Orioles on May 9th.

Other News: Frank Thomas hits 35 Home Runs.

The Mets perform their first triple play on a May 30th doubleheader, at the Polo Grounds

Richie Ashburn leads the team in batting average hitting .306

1963-
Casey leads the Mets to another 10th place finish, this time with a record of 51-111.
Major Trades: Duke Snider returned to New York but was later purchased by the Dodgers on April 1st.

Gil Hodges is traded to the Washington Senators for OF Jimmy Piersall.

Other News: On August 7th, Jim Hickman becomes the first Met to hit for the cycle.

1964 Once again, the Mets place 10th with a 53-109 win/loss record, with Casey as manager.

Duke Snider is sold to the Giants

Frank Thomas sent to Philadelphia for Gary Kroll, Wayne Graham and money.

Other News:
Shea Stadium Opens

Ron Hunt becomes the first Met to start in an All-Star game.

Ron is also the Mets leader in batting average hitting .303

1965-
Casey Stengel retires from baseball and Wes Westrum takes over managing duties. However, despite the new managerthe Mets still place 10th with a 50-112 record.

Major Trades
Yogi berra and Warren Spahn, )purchased from the Braves,) join the Mets team

The Giants pick up Spahn on waivers for $1.

Other News:
On September 3rd, Jim Hickman becomes the first Met to homer three times in a game.
