Mike Piazza's Minor League Career

1988-Mike was selected as the 62 round Draft Pick for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mike then spent the winter in the Dominican Republic, where the Dodgers had a newly opened baseball academy, there Mike learned how to catch.

1989-With the Salem Dodgers Mike hit .268, had 8 homeruns and 25 RBI. Became a member of the short season Northwest All-Star Team.

1990-In Class A Verno Beach Dodgers where he hits .250, with 20 doubles, 6 Homeruns, and 45 RBI. He helped the team win the Florida State League Championship.

1991- In Class A Bakersfield, Mike led the entire Dodgers minor league system with 29 homeruns. Led the team in RBI, extra-base hits, slugging percentage, total bases and doubles. Mike then spent the winter playing for Mexicali, of the Mexican league. While there, Mike hit .330 with 16 homeruns.

1992- In Double A San Antonio he batted .337 in 31 games. Later in the year he got "promoted" to Triple A Albuquerque, where Piazza had a 25 game hitting streak, hit .341, smashed 16 homeruns and drove in 69 RBI's. Mike was then named the Dodgers Minor League Player of the Year and Pacific League All-Star.

In September of 1992 the Dodgers called Piazza up. He spent that winter playing in the Arizona Fall League, where he hit .291.
